King Naresuan The Great Monument

King Naresuan The Great Monument

Anyone who has been to Petchaburi must know one of the province’s main tourist destinations, i.e. Chao Samran Beach. Located around 15 kilometres away from Petchaburi Town, it is a beach that has been a major tourist attraction for about 400 years. History has it that King Naresuan the Great, along with Prince Ekathotsarot, visited the beach and was very pleased by its beauty. He stayed here for a year; the locals, therefore, called it Hat Chao Samran, literally meaning the beach of the pleased king. Situated about seven kilometres south of Chao Samran Beach is Puek Tian Beach, which is also a tourist destination. In 1998, King Naresuan the Great Monument was erected on the Cha-am District Office’s land with an area of 8000 square metres near Cham-am Nuea Beach by the people of Cha-am District, Petchaburi in order to commemorate King Naresuan the Great, who did great things to Thai people as well as the country by freeing Siam from Burmese rule, protecting the kingdom and taking good care of his citizens. The monument is visited by both locals and tourists coming to pay their homage to it. If you have a chance to pay a visit to Chao Samran Beach, do not forget to pay your respect to the monument of King Naresuan, who set free the kingdom from Burma’s domination, so as to honour him.
