Samut Sakorn Foundation Charity Vegetarian House

Samut Sakorn Foundation Charity Vegetarian House

In the old times, the area of this Samut Sakorn Foundation Charity Vegetarian House was a Chinese school, which had run in good business for years. However, in the next period of time, Thai government issued the law indicating that every school must teach in Thai language only. Therefore this Chinese school was closed and the area became the abandon place. After that, there was an idea to transform this area into vegetarian house by using the money from burning the graveyard donation. The newly built vegetarian house is called “Samut Sakorn Foundation Charity Vegetarian House”. Those who would like to visit and make merit, as it is believed donation will enhance the donator’s good deed and favor, can travel to Mahachai subdistrict, Muang district, Samut Sakorn province. This vegetarian house opens daily including on national holidays from 08.00-16.00. Moreover, the vegetarian house holds several festivals annually to give a chance to those who would like to make merit and accumulate the good actions. The first festival, held in the beginning of the year, is in February which is the ceremony to change or relieve one’s bad fortune (Pha Keng festival). The next festival is held in May which is Chiae Joh god’s birthday celebration. After the next 5 months, in October, is the festival when people eat vegetarian food and avoid eating meat and any living animals such as fish or what we called in Thai “Gin Jae”. This festival is held for 10 days which Samut Sakorn municipality, Tourism Authority of Thailand and other sectors give the most importance to this festival. There will be a Samut Sakorn vegetarian festival which tourists can worship 9 gods and goddesses. In this period of time, most Chinese-Thai people who live in Mahachai area always join, practice Buddhism, eat vegetarian food and purify their minds. Lastly, in the last month of the year, in December, there is Thai Hong Kong God birthday celebration festival.
