Pridi Phanomyong Memorial is located at Muang riverside, opposite to Wat Phanomyong, Ta Wasukri sub-district, Phra Nakorn Si Ayutthaya district. The memorial was built in commemoration of the senior statesman Pridi Phanomyong, the leader of the civilian faction who replaced the absolute monarchy with democracy with the king as head of state. He was named one of the world’s great personalities by UNESCO in 1999.Pridi Phanomyong Memorial was built with love and faith from Dr. Pridi Phanomyong’s supporters. They agreed to build the memorial at his hometown. The memorial itself was designed with profound meaning. The use of symbols implied his three important ideology; peace, Free Thai, and democracy. Located in the circle pond, the monument was made of bronze with six round pillars supporting Thai-style house.In the memorial, there are1. Thai-style house museum is over 100 years old. It was a houseboat with Thai ancient hip roof which the planks were placed vertically and were connected with small woods, looking like the stalk of lotus. The door was elegantly carved in the combination of Thai and Chinese style. This Thai-style house became a museum showing furniture and equipments used in that period and related to Pridi Phanomyong, as well as photos presenting his life and his work.2. Thai-style hall is a historic Thai-style house built 120 years ago. It was a houseboat in Muang canal in front of Wat Phanomyon, next to the houseboat that was Pridi Phanomyong’s birthplace. The hall was later moved onshore. Inside the hall was a gorgeous traditional Thai-Chinese-European-style carved door facade.
