Wat Krajom Thong

Wat Krajom Thong

Wat Krajom Thong is situated at 15/2, Moo 2, Banggruay-Sainoi. Watchalor Sub-District, Banggruay District, Nonthaburi Province, 11130. The temple probably was built in 1367 in the era of King Ramathibodi I or King U-Thong. In the past, this temple is in the same period with Wat Prang Luang in Bangyai District. The histories of both temples are related to King U-Thong as his pavilion. Therefore, one of the main attractions in the temple is the monastery of Luang Por U-Thong. The monastery of Luang Por U-Thong is similar to a small monastery which can contain 21 monks. The thickness of the monastery’s walls is about 80 centimeters. Three Buddhist statues of the early U-Thong period are located inside the monastery. The middle Buddhist statue which is the biggest is called “Luang Por U-Thong”. Unfortunately, the monastery was seriously deteriorated. Only the side walls and the back wall remained. Local people who are believe in this monastery donated money to build the new monastery over the old one for the community. However, there were controversies about the construction. Moreover, local people thought that since the head of the three Buddhist statues were cut and stolen, the new heads (made from plaster) should be built and replaced the old one because the statues’ appearance is different from what has been photographed. Apart from the statues, there is meditation center by monk Vimokkha for practicing the dharma. For more information, please visit http:// www.vimokkhadhamma.com/activities/watkrajomthong.php
