Ayutthaya Historical Study Centre

This compound is located on Rochana Road and is a National Research Institute devoted to the study of Ayutthaya, especially the period when it was the capital of Thailand. The Centre is responsible for the museum of the History of Ayutthaya, which exhibits reconstructions from the past.

Ayutthaya Historical Study Centre was established under collaboration between Thai and Japanese scholars in order to celebrate 100th anniversary of Thailand-Japan relationship, seeing that Ayutthaya is the origin of significant Thai civilization root and the centre of Southeast Asia trading in the past. Therefore Ayutthaya study is also important tounderstanding other nations in the region.This Ayutthaya Historical Study Centre is divided into two buildings: main building and appendix building. Main building is at Rojana Road, near Phranakon Si Ayutthaya Rajabhat University. This building is 2-storeyed and the exhibition is upstairs. Another building is located at tum bon Koh Rean in the site of Japanese Village. This study centre’s museums are different from others as they brought back old society and cultures to life from detailed researches mixing with modern museum technology to make information easy to understand. There are five subjects of exhibition: Ayutthaya as the Capital, Ayutthaya as a seaport, Ayutthaya as the centre of politicals and administrative power, Ayutthaya international relationships and ancient Thai ways of life.The centre opens daily 9.00 a.m.-5.00 p.m. Admission fee: free for students in uniforms, Thai citizens 20, adult foreigner 100 and young foreigner 50 baht per person. Moreover, behind the centre there are statue of His Majesty King Chulalongkorn and the planetarium building, opening on Tuesday to Sunday 8.00 a.m.-4.30 p.m. Two rounds of lecture a day.
