Masjid Nurul Yaman, located in tum bon Lum Pli, am phoe Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya, is the old one. It has a long history since Ayutthaya Period.Masjid Nurul Yaman is a religious place for religious activities and the centre of Thai muslim community in tum bon Lum Pli which has been here for centuries. According to history, a group of Husen’s descendant who were Persian muslim built masjids in Baan Sa Bua of Tung Lum Pli since the reign of King Naresuan the Great. This tale shows that Thai muslim community in tum bon Lum Pli has a long history. Then in the times of wars in which Thailand lost Ayutthaya for a second time, communities in this area were destroyed and the enemy took Tung Lum Pli as their military base to beseige Thai capital. Archaeological evidence were found: metal pieces used to cast cannons for firing the capital. After Ayutthaya was lost, Tung Lum Pli became a barren field.In Rattanakosin Period, people moved to reside here again and Thai muslims were united to build up a new mosque,an origin of Masjid Nurul Yaman. Its architectural quality is gorgeous and outstanding with Egyptian arts. The building is Pan Ya, Thai pattern of construction with no gable, the roof tiled with porcelain, floor marble from Italy. Inside there is “Mimbar”, a wooden podium encraved quotes from the Quran in beautiful Middle East style. This masjid has been repaired many times. People in the community take it as a place for religious activities and centre of the religion for them to behave according to Islamic discipline.The masjid does not only serve the community as a religious place but also a place for sightseeing.
