Sian Chang Market

Sian Chang Market

Sian Chang Market is located at Tumbon Pai Ling, Aum Phoe Phra Nakhon Sri Ayutthaya. It was established from concept of Ayutthaya Period’s ways of life blended with Thai contemporaty life styles in terms of arts and fresh new ideas in order to combine Thai unique characters to form the amazing “Ta Lad Sian Chang: Thai Hip Market”. The market is such a fascinating place due to its creative Thai applied art decoration altogether with many different concepts of shops there, for example Ngin, rare Thai cuisine bistro, Mum Aroi which makes burgers from well-known Thai ingredient like Pla Too and Ka Bok Tor that mixes bamboo tube with food in Dork Aor Pork with Kra Bok Chicken. For souvenirs, there are garments, bags, jewelries and miscellaneous gifts sold in various styles like Tok Tang Kao Saan shop famous for its black rice and provides a gigantic rice tank screened “Noo Tok Tang Kao Sarn” (a Thai idiom means a man who marries a rich woman) for tourists to take pictures, Siam See T-Shirt selling souvenir T-shirts, Ka La Thong, center of archaic wooden toys and nearby lies a Royal Chitralada Agricultural Project shop where you can sign to pay respect for His Majesty the King in front of it.The first thing to do after arriving here is to knock on gong, take pictures with the white elephant containing celebrities’ signatures when they visited the market and pay respect to giant Ganesha which is a deity that this place was named after. From the inside you will see a hugh elephant statue made of teak roots named Lentine, a male elephant made in the market on February 14, 2011 and when finishing the market you will notice multicolored plaided bamboo fish mobiles hung in rows. People come here to wish upon Wishing Fish, according to Ayuthaya Period’s belief, by painting mobiles then hang them. When it comes to the night you can go upstairs to the view point and be relaxed under big trees suspending with light balloons and colorful plaided bamboo fish. There are also variety of shows at the wide fairground behind Ganesha. An easy way to get to Sian Chang Market is to drive the same way to Ayothaya Floating Market plus 100 metres further.
