Wat Tha Suthawat

This ancient temple was constructed in the early Ayutthaya period. During the war, armies and troops crossed the Chao Phraya River at this temple. Now, the temple is under the royal patronage of Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn. The temple compound is shaded by large trees, which alsoreach over the bank of the nearby Chao Phraya River, lifeblood of the country. The royal pavilion stands in the middle of a pondwithin the temple grounds. Monuments celebrating King Naresuan the Great and King Ekathotsarotstand beside the pavilion. Inside the Ubosot (ordination hall), Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn commissioned her personal painters and artists from the Royal Folk Arts and Crafts Project to create murals illustrating Phra Maha Chanok, the history of Ang Thong. Her Royal Highness graciously drew a mango on this temple wall as well. Wat Tha Sutthawat is located at Ban Bang Sadet, Mu 2, Tambon Bang Sadet, Amphoe Pa Mok, on the east bank of the Chao Phraya River. To get there, take Ayutthaya-Ang Thong route (Highway No. 309) to Km 38-39.The temple entrance will be on the left, approximately 17 kilometers prior to reaching downtown Ang Thong. The temple is open daily from 8.00 am-5.00 pm.
