Phu Muang Forest Park

Phu Muang Forest Park covers a total area of nearly 700 acres, comprising of mixed-type and bamboo forests. A 1.5-kilometer nature trail leads visitors through dense forests packed with various kinds of trees such as Makha, bamboo, and more. Earthen elephant kraals (elephant enclosures) dating back to 1,500 years ago are also found here. A total of three kraals cover 4 acres of land. In addition, an ancient Dvaravati structure with a laterite base can also be found here. It is believed it was used for royal rituals conducted prior to elephant hunts. Namtok Phu Muang, a waterfall mentioned in one of the most well-known pieces of Thai literature “Khun Chang-Khun Phaen”, can also be found within park grounds. The five-tier cascade flows past the elephant enclosures and the laterite structure. In addition, lush forests on the mountain range of Khao Phra are home to various types of flora as well as stony fields, where woody cycads abound. The park is located at Mu 5, Tambon Chorakhe Samphan, 40 kilometers from Amphoe Mueang. To get there, take Highway 321 and continue onto Highway 3342 at Km 128-129. Drive for another 500 meters, the park entrance will be on the right. Permission for staying overnight should be arranged in advance.
