Talat Pho Phraya, the original market on Tha Chin River bank, is located in Tambon Pho Phraya. The market was found in 1925 after the construction of Pho Phraya Watergate Dam. It was initially a single storey wooden building where Thai Chinese people gathered and traded.Trading has been prosperous in this area because, to communicate with Suphanburi, it is necessary to use the water route betweem Pho Phraya and Suphan Buri to travel. In 1997, people in Talat Pho Phraya encountered the first fire causing a severe damage. Pho Phraya Sanitation District then managed to rebuild Pho Phraya fresh market handle the the expansion of the community. Later on , fire broke out at Pho Phraya Market again for the second time in 2004 leading the people to be in a great trouble. The original wooden structure were severely damaged by the fire. 41 houses were totally burnt down. Currently, the land is under construction of new two and a half storey economic buildings for 81 rooms.Talat Pho Phraya sells various food, for example, fresh prawns, river fishes, vegetables, and famous Pho Phraya rice noodles known among local Suphan Buri people and tourists.There are four stalls selling different kinds of the rice noodles alongside the river at a friendly price. Various kinds of desserts including local Thai desserts which are difficult to find these days are also available at a reasonable price as well. This market opens in the late afternoon till evening. It is also referred to as “Pho Phraya Riverside Market”.
