Talat Tha Chang

This 100 year market located in Doembang Nangbuat District is a big community in the north of Suphan Buri near Tha Chin River. It used to be one of the central department stores in Suphan Buri facing the riverside. Most of the shopkeepers are Chinese. The goods include agricultural products like chillis, onions, garlics and rice and other appliances like soaps and bleaches. There is a rice mill located within the market area. People used to travel by boat where the port was located right in front of the market. In 1958, the market was burned by fire damaging over 600 houses. Only few houses were left standing such as Lek Siao Hong Restaurant. Though it was partly ruined by fire, this market has a long history of over 50 years. There are old and new buildings, daily life of local people, traditional food waiting for visitors to explore this outstanding place. Another highlight includes Tha Chang’s grocery store where many rare and ancient items are collected. It is the pleasure experience for antique collectors who know that past cannot be rewinded. It is one of the charming characters of this market. The atmosphere of Ta LatTha Chang has not changed from that of 30 years ago. The condition of the community is still the same but the transportation has already been improved with faster and more convenient service. Ta Chang also holds the evening market “Tha Chang Vintage”; the popular retro walking street for both local people and tourists.
