Kong LaenKong Laen is an interesting tourist attraction in Pai district, Mae Hong son province. It is also called “Pai Grand Canyon” due to its characteristics which is similar to the Grand Canyon. Kong Laen is local word. Kong means road or way to transport and Laen means monitor lizard. Therefore, Kong Laen means “the way for monitor lizard” which is quite narrow and small. Kong Laen was created by a natural phenomenon as the earth is eroded and some parts are sinking and destroyed by the rain, similar to PaeMueang Phi in Phrae province.Tourists can visit here all year round, especially in the winter as there is sea mist and beautiful scenery in the morning. Visit here in the morning or evening is more recommendable in order to avoid the heat in the afternoon.Getting there7km far from Pai district. Take highway 1095, Pai-Mae Malai. Kong Laen is on the left at km.88 (from Chiang Mai). Then, take a walk about 20km.Kong Laen is a good choice for those who love adventure because it is narrow and steep.
