Sacred Heart Cathedral

Sacred Heart Cathedral, Chiang Mai is located at Chang Klarn Sub District, Muang District, on the west side of Ping River, Chiang Mai. It was first established in 1931 by the will of Pastor Gorge Merabell and a Thai monk named Nicholas. At first, the Sacred Heart church was just a little wooden dwelling that was made in the purpose of being a place for religious activities for Christian who lives in Chiang Mai or in the north of Thailand. But, later, it had been renovated from time to time. The main church right now is already the third cathedral building which is made of bricks and cement. It is big enough to carry more than 6oo guests. The cathedral is very well decorated with European architectural styles designed by a French architect. The building is in a square shape with a triangular end of a roof on top and the dome which is decorated with the cross. Inside the cathedral are embellished with drawings and colorful glasses. Also, the door panel is made of carven wood which is so beautiful yet delicate. It can be said that Sacred Heart Cathedral is a principal church of Chiang Mai and the church is very precious and important for Catholic who stays in the north of Thailand as it has a long historical background and it was built while the dissemination of Christianity was blooming. Besides, it has been a center and a main cathedral of the northern Thailand till now.
