Jao Poh Khun Sam Chon Shrine

Jao Poh Khun Sam Chon ShrineJao Poh Khun Sam Chon Shrine or Khun Sam Chon guardian spirit shrine is derived from the tale of Jao Poh Khun Sam Chon, the owner of Chod town. The brief story was Khun Sam Chon, son of Poh Khun Chan Kam Lueng, the owner of Chod town, and Chao Tang Orn (Chao Mukka Wadee) has one brother called Poh Khun Pud Wong Yon Hong. When Poh Khun Chan Kam Lueng had passed away, Poh Khun Sam Chon, who was the first son, succeeded to the throne Chod town after his father.Later he had Chao Mae Nora as his queen. Chod town at present is located in Mae Ramad subdistrict which is above Mae Sod subdistrict. However, not so long after Poh Khun Sam Chon had reigned, he began spreading the wars over his colony. He was known as the skillful warrior yet kind-hearted for his subject. The reason why Khun Sam Chon made war with Sukhothai came from the misunderstanding. Before that, Khom (or Khmer) Samad Klon Lumpong took control over Sukhothai and abused people. Therefore Khun Sam Chon decided to attack Sukhothai in order to take power from Khom Samad Klon Lumpong, united Thailand together and appointed Sukhothai city as the capital. However, when he marched the army to Sukhothai, Poh Khun Bang Klang Thao and Poh Khun Pha Muang had already defeated the Khmer. Poh Khun Bang Klang Thao was enthroned himself as the King of Sukhothai named Phrajao Khun Sri Intharatid. Khun Sam Chon was glad when he received this news. However, he had to continue marching the army in order to compromise Thai people to unite together and swore allegiance to Sukhothai. He had no intention to kill Thai people, his own people. However, Sukhothai city did not know about this since Khun Sam Chon had not yet informed them. When Khun Sam Chon army entered Sukhothai, thre was a big fight. Khun Sam Chon fought against Poh Khun Sri Intharatid. When Poh Khun Sri Intharatid was weak and about to retreat, Poh Khun Ram, his son, joined the fight and harmed Khun Sam Chon several wounds. Therefore, Khun Sam Chon had to retreat back to Cod town. Poh Khun Sri Intharatid did not follow as Khun Sam Chon was also Thai. However, Khun Sam Chon was in deep regret that he had caused many deaths to Thai people. Therefore, when he recovered himself, he announced to abdicate the throne to his younger brother named Poh Khun Pud Wong Yon Hong and taught him to take care of their happiness and sorrow as if they were his own children and grandchildren. He asked him to unite Thai people who scattered into different places and fought against any army who wished to take over Thailand.Jao Poh Khun Sam Chon shrine is on the right-handed side of Highway Number 105 (Tak-Mae Sod) between 70th-71st kilometers. The shrine is newly built and held the opening ceremony in 1980. The reason why the shrine was built was from one squire. He had been suffered from paralysis for several years. One night he dreamed that he was told to build a shrine here. He decided to build a shrine for Jao Poh Khun Sam Chon and his condition was improved since then. Many people pay great respect to this shrine.
