Khao Nor-Khao Kaew

Khao Nor-Khao Kaew is situated at Phaholyothin state highway nearby Nakhonsawan-Kampangpetch. It is actually located at Baan Dan Sub-District, Banpotpisai District which is right next to Salokbaht Sub-District, Khanuworalaksaburi District, Kampaengpetch (10 kilometers away from Salokbaht). The place is 45 kilometers away from Nakhonsawan and 18 kilometers away from Banpotpisai. Khao Nor is a limestone mountain that got a temple and a desolate school above the foothills. It is separated into two parts. 1. Khao Nang Pantharat or Khao Look Lek: there is a stair that will lead you up to the top of the mountain. And, on the way, you will encounter a little cave where the reclining Buddha is situated and the cave’s gate as well as 4-5 little Buddha images. If you want to get inside the cave, you need to walk all the way to the back of the Buddha image and the door will be out there. Visitors should bring a flashlight with you during your walk inside the cave. Some believes that this is the cave of King of Nagas. If you keep walking though the cave, you will find the ways keep getting narrow more and more. So, you need to turn back and walk back to the same way you had walked. If you are out at the other gates, there will be a way that brings you up to the top of the mountain where you can take your time appreciating the beauty of the nature up there. Even the little kids or old people can even climb up to the top of this mountain as well as it is not that high and steep. 2. Khao Phra Buddha Baht or Khao Look Yai: you will spot the desolate school right in front of the mountain and it is only 300 meters away from Khao Nang Pantharat. There is a footprint of the Buddha and an old Chedi lies up above the mountain. These two things have been assumed that they are at least 400 years old and they were built during the late Ayuttaya period. There are 700 steps of the stair that will bring you up to the top. There used to be a walk rally activity held here and this mountain is properly for teenagers or middle age people as it is quite steep. King Rama VI once came over Khao Nor during his trip to the northern provinces in 1906. Khao Kaew is situated nearby Khao Nor and there are many caves lie above this mountain where most of the bats live. Visitors will encounter a bunch of bats flying out of the cave in the evening. Subdistrict Administrative Organization has announced this place as a tourist attraction place of the area and provided a pavilion for the visitors to see the real life of bats.
