Rim Sai Than Lan Krathong Sai

Rim Sai Than Lan Krathong Sai Rim Sai Than Lan Krathong Sai is located on Kittikachorn Road in Nong Luang Sub District. The whole east bank of Ping River has been turned into a recreation park for people in Tak Province. Here, the sun setting behind the mountain ridge in the evening is a remarkably beautiful sight. Each year, the Loi Krathong Sai Lai Pratheep 1,000 Duang festival will be held along the bank. The area is also where Talard Klang Taksin (Taksin Central Market) and Kittikhun Hall are located. The hall is a multi-purpose building used during the province’s important events and exhibitions. At the festival, beautiful lights from krathongs made from coconut shells will sparkle in continuous stream as the krathongs float along Ping River. The local tradition of krathong floating became a floating contest of 1,000 krathongs known as “Krathong Sai Lai Pratheep” contest, a unique festival and inherited folk wisdom which is a pride of people in Tak Province. The contest is different from those in other provinces. On the first festive night, there will be a krathong procession of local people dressed in traditional Thai costumes. The procession is comprised of a large krathong called “Krathong Nam (Leading Krathong),” “Krathong Kala (Coconut Shell Krathong)” and “Krathong Pid Tai (Closing Krathong)”. Everything will be exquisitely set up, showing readiness to compete in the following day. The Krathong Sai Lai Pratheep 1,000 Duang Festival has been carried on for a long time as a token of apology to River Ping, which nature created as a lengthy stream, allowing the kratongs to float in continuum and to give a dazzling sight of sparkling lights throughout the night.
