Theppitak Park

Theppitak Park

Theppitak Park is located at 130 Moo 7, Tambol Chong Kaeb, Amphur Pobpra which is 28 kilometers from Amphur Mae Sod. This park was initiated by Khun Pairat and Khun Boobpa Chainork with 900 Rais area. This park is the center of inventing new types of pomegranate that is sweet and delicious called “Sripanya Pomegranate”. Moreover, it also grows Srithong orange, Sai Nam Pueng orange, custard apple and produces fresh pomegranate juice. The pomegranates here grow all year especially during April to June and November to December and have a dark red skin with sweet taste. The Chinese consider this fruit as an auspicious fruit and is also a kind of herb. At present this park is trying to develop a new type of pomegranate called “Srisiam Pomegranate”, a seedless pomegranate, since 2004. The origin of Theppitak Park started when a family that moved in at Amphur Pobpra for 10 years. At first they started from growing custard apple and finally ended up growing pomegranate. The father was offered a PH.D since he was able to breed the Thai pomegranate and Spanish pomegranate. The Spanish pomegranate is a big species with white skin and sweet taste. On the other hand, the Thai pomegranate is small with red skin and sour taste. Both of them were breed into “Sripanya Pomegranate”, which has hard skin like guava in a square shape making it easier to eat. Then, the Sripanya Pomegranate was breed with the Indian species and was named “Srisiam Pomegranate”. This species has soft seed and eatable. This species is not for sell yet. However, there are fake ones already.Growing oranges requires a lot of chemical, bad pricing and has a lot of competitors. Growing flowers, the gardeners have no negotiation power and have to follow the price list of the vendor. On the other hand, pomegranates require less chemical, have less competitors and is also believed to be an auspicious fruit. Growing pomegranates depends on 50% of species issue, 25% of caring and 25% of the weather condition. There are 2 groups of customers; one who eat for health and the others who prefer the taste.Tourists who want to travel here can bring their own cars and take the 1090 highway (Mae Sod-Pobpra-Umpang) for around 28 kilometers. Then, turn left for 1 kilometer. For more information, contact Khun Pairat Chainork at 08 6200 8283.
