Wat Kho Hong

Wat Kho Hong

Wat Kho HongWat Kho Hong was a more-than-200-year temple. It is located along the Chao Praya River, in the area of Ban Kho Hong, Tambon Takien Luen, Amphoe Muang, about 10 kilometers off the city. Mon people have lived together since 1793. Inside the temple are works of art from the Late Ayuddhaya and the Early Rattanakosin Art temple. Inside the temple are Rattanakosin’s successive mural arts depicting story of divinity. Significantly, the Lord Buddha’s imitated foot print has been shown on the mural and there are many other Thai paintings shown on the Samut Khoi (an ancient Thai book) in Mon language with illustration and covered with lacquer.Travelling privately in the north of King Rama V, he made his way through Wat Ban Kho or Wat Kho Hong in 1906, the King worshiped the principal Buddha’s image in the monastery and also paid respect to Luang Pu Gun who was the abbot at that time. Inside of the ubosot, the King saw “Kasennen” in posture of standing and putting his hand on his stomach. The sculpture was so admired by the King that he asked to take it back in return of his donation of 80 baht for building another one to substitute the former Kasennen.Another fame of the temple derives from the medical treatment by “Yuab Cha” in which the doctor plunges his feet on herbs then put his feet on the burning iron plate at the same time the iron plate make a sound like “Cha”. After that, he will put the feet on the area of the patient’s pain, which has been counted as a miraculous medical treatment for more than 100-year-old history.Inside the temple, tourists can follow the King Rama V’s travelling route; for example, visiting the ancient temple of more than 200 years, worshiping the Kasennen statue, joining “Yueb Cha” for paresis and paralysis, and worshiping Luang Pho Gun as well as Luang Pho Inn (famous monk teachers in the past).
