Itti Base (Weapon museum)Itti Base or Weapon museum stands on Khao Kho (famous high mountain Petchabun) at Moo 3 Baan Simarak, Tung Samor. In 1981, the fight against communist on Khao Kho was on going and Itti Base was used to set up cannons as support under the command of Colonel Itti Simarak. He won the battle and retrieved Khao Kho back from communist power. The base was named after him since then.After the war was over, the base has been turned into outdoor museum as a memorial of the important strategic spot. Weapons of several kinds are presented in the museum building. For instance, fighter plane F5, a pair of 105 mm. cannons, 155 mm. cannon that can fire as far as 11 kilometer, infantry fighting vehicle, remainder of tank, tractor, and bunker as well. Each zone has a sign telling history and descriptions of weapons. There is also a lecture room summarizing the battle over Khao Kho for a group of visitors. A lecturer and visual aids are available. Moreover, there are equipment, utilizer and weapon seized from communist army. Itti Base has a beautiful scenery. It has become a popular historical tourist attraction which any tourist shouldn’t miss. For not only there’s a sightseeing of weapons but also one of the most important history lessons of Thailand on its turning point. Directions: Take haighway 2196 to Khao Kho. Turn right after 28th kilometer to highway 2323 for 3 kilometers and the museum is there. It opens daily from 07.00-17.00 The fee is 10 baht/person.
