The project originated from, His Majesty the King’s Self-sufficiency Economy, to demonstrate and educate those of interest in such fields; managing waste, cattle rearing -livestock, bio-compost, renewable energy sources -bio-diesel, charcoal, pyroligneous acid, organic agriculture, along with the idea of mixed plantations which aims to balance natural nutrients in the soil and reduce chemical usage. Additionally, Rainforest Farm also experiments and produces household products from local herbs; soaps, shampoos, multipurpose cleaning liquids and balms. Aside from adapting to the Self-sufficiency Economy concept, the projects of Rainforest Farm are also environmentally friendly, and are an alternative source of income for local residents. Closely located, is the Rainforest Resort, which has its doors wide open to welcome visitors at all times. The resort has a very close-to-nature atmosphere and is the main purchaser of products produced by Rainforest Farm. At the resort, soaps, shampoos and a series of household products are used in guest rooms and for the hotels’ housekeeping. The 11,200 square meters occupied by Rainforest Farm is divided into sections consisting of an organic fruit & vegetable plantation, a mushroom shed, a fishpond, a chicken rearing area and a moderate sized lake. Besides, the Rainforest Resort offers a farm-stay for adventurous travelers. The accommodation in this zone is located nearby the organic fruit & vegetable plantation, where it is possible for guests to select their own groceries from the farm and have the chefs’ prepare a meal. The rates are relatively cheap; it is only 400 THB for 2 people sharing a room.
