Wat Huay Khen

WatHuayKhenWatHuayKhen is located in TambolHuayKhen, 8 kilometres off the district, along BangmookNak-Wang-nguew Road. The ancient monastery has been registered for preservation by Fine Arts Department. Inside the ancient monastery is a unique mural paintings without any details added. The mural paintings are painted on all 4 sides, painted by a specialist named “Tung” around 1913 in the reign of King Rama VI. He spent around 5 years telling the Buddha’s story and Jatakas with description. The mural paintingshelp understand the story clearly. The Buddha’s story starts from wall on left side of the principal image, telling the Buddha’s storyfrom his birth to the end of right side with ending of the great nirvana. There is a line dividing the Buddha’s story (on the upper) and Ten Great Previous Births (on the lower). Each window is used for drawing a line among different Buddha’s births. Moreover,Tavabals, godsguarding the door in posture of holding a sword towards the red ground, are painted on the door. Sacred holes near all of 4 doors are painted withthe story of PraMalai visiting the inferno. At the front of the principalBuddha’s image is the wall painted with theBuddha’s image after hisenlightenment. Furthermore, at the back of the principal Buddha are 13 chapters of the story of Vessantara; for example, VitulJataka and Nach. On the walls, other Jatakas are being illustrated; for example, Themi, Mahachanok, Suwansam, Nemiraj, Mahosod, Phuritad, Chantara Prince, Nach , Vitul and VessataraJataka. Additionally, the mural painting is worth studying for the posterity and it is counted as a precious artwhich indicates economic situations as well as social histories.
