
Wat Phra Borommathat Thung Yang
Wat Phra Borommathat Thung Yang located in Mu 3, Ban Thung Yang, Tambon Thung Yang. Formerly called Wat Mahathat, this ancient temple is linked with 2 other adjacent temples, Wat Phra Yuen Phutthabat Yukhon and Wat Phra Thaen Sila At, regarding the myth of the Lord Buddha’s visit. Wat Phra Borommathat Thung Yang comprises a Lanna-style wihan in the front. Next is Phra Borommathat Thung Yang, which is a round bell-shaped stupa containing the relics of the Lord Buddha. The stupa stands on a 3-tiered square base. The lower base has a small chedi at each of the 4 corners. The 3rd tier of the base has a niche on each of the 4 sides that are assumed to have been restored afterwards. To get there: It is about 3 kilometres from the provincial city of Uttaradit by taking Highway No. 102. Wat Phra Borommathat Thung Yang will be on the left-hand side.
