Wat Ti Lok Aram

Tilok Aram Temple has two other names, “Sun Tart Buak Si Jang” and “Sun Tart Klang Nam”. It is the only temple that was built in the water, located in the island centered of Kwan Phayao in Nhong Tao by Liab Chai Kwan road, Wiang, Muang, Payao 56000. This temple ages more than 500 years. According to evidences found in the underground of the temple, PrayaYudhisthiraestablished this temple in 1476-1486 for offering to the great king of Chiang Mai (King Tilokaraj). Before department of fisheries built the Watergate to collect water in Kwan Phayao in 1939, it used to be one of royal temples. However, the gate caused flooding over the ancient community in Kwan Phayao and many temples including WatTiklok Aram. Only the very top of relic’s stupa is shown above the water. Later, Phayao respectfully brought out LuangPorSilaWatTilokkaram and installed LuangPor at the previous spot in the middle of Kwan Phayao. Visitors are welcomed to take a boat ride to enjoy the scenery and pay respect to LuangPorSila. Inside the temple lie Buddha’s statue and Chedi. Downward is a waterfront public rest-house open for a rest under peaceful surrounding. To travel to the temple, visitors can take boat ride daily from 7 a.m.-7 p.m. Phayao row and paddling boat club is the provider for row boat and pedal boat at Kwan Phayao pier. The boat trip is about 15 minutes to Wat and back. Row boat costs 20 baht/person while pedal boat costs 40 baht/person. On Buddhistholy holidays such as Magha Puja Day, VisakhaBucha Dayand Asalha Puja Day, a special activity is held. Wien Tien or holding lighted candles in hand and go around a temple 3 times is done on water. It is the only place in the world that has this water ceremony.
