Ancient Train Cemetery and Japanese Military Escap

Locomotive Graveyard is on the roadside of Highway No. 4 near the bridge across the La-un River, approximately 30 km. form Ranong. The railway used to be part of the Kra Isthmus-Khao Fa Chi route used by the JAPANESE troops to transport armaments during WWII. Traces of war left from that period include the Andaman railway line, tunnel and bunkers, and headquarters of Japanese troops. There is also a border market every Sunday during 4.00 a.m.-9.00 a.m. For more information, please contact the La-un District Office at Tel. 0 7789 9058 and Bang Kaeo Sub-district Administration Organisation Tel. 0 7784 7028. To get there: From Ranong Municipality, follow Highway No.4 bound for Chumpon. Approximately 30 km. after crossing the bridge over Khlong La-un, near Km. 583, a directional sign to the Locomotive Graveyard will be visible on the right and Japanese Troops’ Tunnel is located about 1 km. from the Locomotive Graveyard, next to the Bang Kaeo Provincial Police Station. It was dug some 20 m. long and 1 m. wide into the hill.
