Ko Maphrao

Ko Maphrao

This small 100-meter long white sand island has a beautiful coral reef off its western shore. The calm, clear waters are perfect for a leisurely swim. Maphrao Island is a bird’s nest concessionary island where the nests of swiftlets are collected to make the Chinese delicacy, bird’s nest soup. The birds must be protected from undue disturbances, so visitors to the island must obtain permission from the Chumphon provincial office at least one week in advance. Ko Maphrao is a short 1 kilometer boat ride from Sai Ri beach, south of Chumphon town. To request a guide, call 0 7751 1551 to contact the island office. Those who want to dive should contact the Mu Koh Chumphon National Park Office at 0 7755 8144-5.
