Ko Thalu

Ko Thalu is a small island in Bang Saphan Noi District, Prachuap Khiri Khan Province, approximately 7 kilometers from the coast at Ban Nong Samet. It takes around 30 minutes by normal boat to the island but only around 15 minutes by speed boat. The area of Ko Thalu covers 1,000 Rai. The distance from the north to the south is roughly 2 kilometers. There are beach, mountain, and coconut garden, which are still beautiful and abundant. The beaches are very clean and white; for example, Ao Mook, which has peaceful atmosphere, delicate white sand, and spectacular sea water; Ao Sai Yai, which is a perfect place for diving, seeing corals, kayaking, and sailing; and Ao Thian, which has a lot of Thian trees for the tourists to admire the scenery.On the east side of Ko Thalu in Prachuap Khiri Khan Province, there is a coral graveyard where corals are swept by sea waves and piled up throughout the beach. The very north of the island is a rock cliff and large rock cavity, which is caused by natural process: erosion of wind and sea water, until the other side of the sea can be seen. This results in the name of the island. Around Ko Thalu is full of beautiful corals in water shallows, such as staghorn corals, brain corals, and flower corals. The beach here has clean and white sand, which is a nice place for those who love peaceful and personal atmosphere. The tourists often go diving to see corals, gorgonians, and schools of beautiful fish, at the island.Besides, the tourists can go kayaking and enjoy the beauty around the island, which takes approximately 2 hours and a half. There are many more activities, including camping, trekking, and climbing the mountain. The island also provides boats and houses for the tourists. The tourists can rent the boats at Ban Pak Khlong pier. The trip to the island takes 20 minutes. The cost to rent the boat tour and to go diving is approximately 4,500 baht for 10 people in maximum. This price covers the skin diving equipment, life jacket, and a set of lunch. A boat for squid fishing for 1-15 people costs 4,500 baht for 3 hours and a boat for fishing for 1-15 people costs 9,000 baht for 24 hours. At Bang Saphan market, turn right to Bang Saphan- Nong Hat Thai road, passing the office of Pongprasat Sub-district Administration Organization, for another 10 kilometers. At the junction, turn left to the opposite of the police booth. There is Ko Thalu pier.The tourists can also take the coach at the new Bangkok Bus Terminal (South), for 5 hours and a half. The Bangkok- Bang Saphan Noi air-conditioned bus will pass the entrance of Ko Thalu pier.
