Mae Mok Reservoir Mae Mok Reservoir’s water source is the large Mae Mok creek which is full of water all year round. The water is originated from Doi Khun Mae Mok and from the north of Theon District on Doi Mae Mok, divided into numbers of creeks. Lush mixed dipterocarp and teak forests surround the reservoir.Lampang’s Mae Mok Reservoir covers a large area of 10,000 Rai with 2 kilometers in width and 1.9 kilometers in length. The paved road is convenient for visitors where it also allows them to embrace the atmosphere of lush, shady trees all the way along the road. The reservoir is located 50 kilometers far from an intersection at Theon District and approximately 15 kilometers west from Ban Mae Phu. The place can be accessed by car, from highway 1048 (Theon-Thung Saliam-Sawankhalok route.)Mae Mok Reservoir is an earth dam reservoir with 45-meter wide spillways and 3 pipes transmitting water to Thung Saliam District and migratory farms. The current capacity of the reservoir is 96 million cubic meters with the capacity of full supply level at 134 million cubic meters. The benefited areas of Mae Mok Reservoir are Thung Saliam District and 3 villages located at the end of the reservoir in Sukhothai Province and Theon District of Lampang Province. The water is distributed to area of 45,000 Rai during rainy season and area of 2,000 Rai during dry season. Aiming to create water source for farming and daily use, Mae Mok Reservoir is a part of His Majesty the King’s Royal Project, initiated from when the King visited Thung Saliam and told the head of the Royal Irrigation Department to plan a project to develop the Mae Mok Watershed and to build a dam for the Mae Mok creek.Mae Mok Reservoir is now under the responsibility of Sukhothai Provincial Irrigation Project for the improvement of water transmission and maintenance, led by the Water Transmission and Maintenance Project Office 2.
