Mon Hin Kong

For “Mon Hin Kong” (Mon of mysterious columns) the legend has it that in this area dating back to about 5-6 million years ago was the eruption of volcano bringing magma from earth crust burst out as lava of Basalt covering the area, then the lava was cooled fast. This resulted in Basalt which was on the top layer was tensed in every direction. Having contracted from cooling down led to fracture vertical with the surface resulting in broken stones in multi-angel shape similar to columnar which some of them were upright and for some were fallen disorderly on the area. Mon Hin Kong was the geological phenomenon, not the wonderful, magical or miraculous place. It was originated by nature which was the heritage of nature for people to learn so people should not intrude into and take natural remains for neither their private property nor paying respect. The discovery in Napoon Subdistrict since about 50 years ago happened that there were people from Sawankalok travelling to meet Ki Po-duang to ask him to guild them to Mon Hin Kong by claiming that they had a clue treasure map and that the Mon, the Nguew had taken treasure to hidden at Mon Hin Kong and covered them with stones. As a result, Ki led Saruen and Noi to follow the clue treasure map. Two days later, they found a one-meter-long sneak staying there and they found only pestle and mortar. Moreover, it is said that if anyone bring stuff from that area, they would be in danger. A few days later, after finding stuff, Saruen was fallen ill, then Noi took him back home and Saruen died. Futhermore, people said that they always hear the loud sound from Mon Hin Kong in the holy days, and there were some people seeing glass ball flying in the sky over Mon Hin Kong. Mon Hin Kon are up to 7-8 groups of stones spread over in the shape that are similar to that of Chedi, 3 groups of stone in the pentagon and hexagon shapes with various length and height; that is, the first group is about 10 meters long and 10 meters high, for the second is about 8 meters long and 10 meters high, and the third group is about 8 meters long and about 5 meters high. Mon Hin Kong is situated at the area of Baan Napoon Pattana, Moo.10. It is located at the east of the village and about 3 kilometers away from the village. These days, the area is the plentiful forest and still are there signs of digging which appeared from digging by Sareun and Noi remaining until todays.For interesting and exotic aspects in Man Hin Kong is that it is the place that local people pay respect to and have various belief. Moreover, it is the tourist attraction in subdistrict, district and province level. Furthermore, it is the sacred place which the area of the Mon of mysterious columns called “Mon Chao Archaya” was named for honoring “Chao Archaya”, the highest spirit among spirit local people pay respect to. It is the group of columns and stones including the vertical ones, the tilted ones, the group of columns and stones that are bunched together and spread around. For the name of Mon was name for honoring Chao Kam Keu which is another spirit to which local people pay respect. The alms-bowl containing coins for exorcising called “Exorcising Mon” is lined with stones ordered as the road, moreover, there is a puddle like water well which the local people believe that it is gold and silver well. The alms-bowl is placed inside the well so that people can throw the coin into the bowl for exorcising. The highlight is “Mon of mysterious columns” which are the columns with 3 meters high lined consecutively divided into many rooms. The local people believe that it is the sacred area so they come to pray and pay respect with incense sticks and candles. You can travel to Mon Hin Kong by using the highway heading from Denchai of Phrae Province to Srisachanalai of Sukothai Province, then turn to Napoon Subdistrict, Wang Chuen District which you will pass Baan Mae Sin, Moo.9, Baan Pla Kang, Moo.3, Napoon District Police Station. When you arrive Baan Napoon Pattana, Moo.10, you have to turn right and head to Mon Hin Kong which you can notice the route from the sign.
