The Princess Mother Memorial Park(SuanSomdejPhraBorromaraja-chonani)The Princess Mother’s 80th Anniversary Memorial Park is located along the Lungsuan River close to KhaoNgen cave. The park is located in the District of Thamapla, merely 65 kilometers away from Choompon city centre. This park is spread across 75 rai (30 acres) and is a prime location for a quiet retreat. The park has hilly areas with huts spread around. Within the area, resides an imitation of Lord Buddha’s footstep.The Princess Mother Memorial Park of Choompon is completed with various natural attractions. To the right of the park is Lungsuan River flowing by. While a pedestrian track is available for keen walkers, leading from the entrance to the hillside at the back of the park. Along the walkway is a fine sight comprising of numerous trees and forest-plants such as wild rambai (fruit), peacock ginger (flower) and Araceae plants. The peak of the hill is where the imitation of Lord Buddha’s footstep is located, as well as the RoiKwai Cave. This cave is quite spacious as it takes up a large area, deep down to ground level. Despite being a cave, RoiKwai has a cool breeze and plenty of air circulation inside, this is a result of its shape, which allows air to gust through open spaces below. Inside the cave, visitors can enjoy unique forms of stalactites and stalagmites. At the entrance of this cave are engraved initials of her majesty SomdejPhraSrinakarindharaBorromaraja-chonani or the Princess Mother.Lower down among the park situates KhaoNgen cave. Inside the cave resides a magnificent Buddha Image. The cave wall has engraved initials Jor-Poe-Ror. A chedi is built on the cliff offering a mesmerizing view and is also a place of worship for Buddhist followers. The cave is a memorial for 1889, the year when King Rama V visited the area and the same year as his Malay expedition.Along the beach is an exquisite Thai-style sala built on stilts. The locale is decorated with beautiful flowers and a lush garden. Behind is a large fruit garden, growing rambutan, durian, mangosteen and many more! A mesmerizing sight is when wild animals come down from the high mountains and eat these fruits.
