Wat Pa HiangWat Pa Hiang is situated at Ban Kong Ngam, Moo 1, Mae Raeng District, Amphoe Pa Sang, Lamphun. The temple was built in 1893 (2420 B.E.). The origin of the temple could be dated back around two hundred years ago. Phaya Asokkarat happened to find three ruined gold Buddha images covered in vines. He then decided to establish the prayer hall at the spot; the hall and its vicinity were later extended into a temple by Khru Ba Thamma Panyo. It was royally accredited in 1897 (2440 B.E.) after the further construction supervised by Khru Ba Khattiya.At the backyard of the temple stands the invaluable scriptures depository. This splendid ancient monument is more than a hundred years old, built in the middle of a small concrete pond. The wooden architecture was built in Lanna style with the features of a small peristyle, vine carving patterns on the eaves, finials and decorative gilded wooden ridges, carved wooden tympanum and door frame, and the distinctive saluting angels mural paintings on red background next to the door. With such detailed adornment, this depository is the must-see for any visitors to Wat Pa Hiang.Every evening, the open ground in front of the temple is turned into the marketplace.
