Wat Phra That SadetWat Phra That Sadet is about 19 km from the city along the Lampang-Ngao route, turning left at km 17 about 2 km in Ban Sadet sub-district, Mueang district, Lampang province.Wat Phra That Sadet is an ancient historical site of Lampang. According to the legend, it was built in the period of Phra Nang Cham Thewi and all of ordination halls and assembly halls were renovated but their ancient arts remain. The Fine Arts Department registered the temple as the national historic site. Key Buddhist sites include Phra That Sadet that contains the Buddha’s relics. It is a Lanna style pagoda and resembles Phra That Lampang Luang but is smaller. Besides, it also houses a large assembly hall called “ViharnKlang”, where a largebeautiful bronze Buddha image in the attitude of subduing Mara is enshrined called “Luang Pho Ham Yat”. Wihan Luang called “Wihan Cham Thewi” is a place where a bronze Buddha image in the attitude of subduing Mara in the Chiang Saen period is enshrined. Apart from that, there is also ViharnPhraPhut that houses a bronze Buddha imagein the attitude of subduing Mara named “Phra Chao Dam OngOuan”.Importance of temples to the community Wat Phra That Sadet is a community temple sponsored by more than 1,000 households. As it is often used by many government agencies for religious activities, it becomes the center of people both in the nearby and other areas. It was therefore assigned to perform many activities to promote Buddhism, morals, ethics, customs and traditions such as: In 1988, it was designed as a sub-district people training unit (sub-district administrative organization). In 1991, it was selected as a Buddhist supporting unit by the Department of Religious Affairs, the Ministry of Education. In 1997, it was chosen as a temple under the project of temple, spirit and sports courts by the Department of Religious Affairs, the Ministry of Education.
