Wat Sri Don ChaiWat Sri Don Chai is the private Mahanikaya temple, which is far from Ban Thi district about 5 kilometres, Lamphun provinceIt was built in 1917. In the past, the temple was situated on alluvial plain so there’s flood every year in the rainy season. Then, water eroded the riverbank and destroyed the building, which is near the river Guang. An abbot and monks decided to move the temple to sand bar on another side of river. And they named it as San Don Jai but now it’s called Wat Sri Don Chai.Inside the temple, the enshrined venerable statue of Buddha ChaleumSiriraj is in walking posture. It’s considered as the tallest and biggest statue of Buddha of northern region. In 1995, Thai people and foreigners who believe in Buddhism built the statue of Buddha in order to contribute to a charity fund on the occasion of 50 years of enthronement of King Rama IX.To get there, take the highway no.11 until the intersection Moo Ban KruLamphun and then turn right about 1 km. Then turn left about 2.5 km. and turn left again. You will see the temple on the left.
