Wat Thum Kwan Meung

Wat Thum Kwan Meung

Wat Thum Kwan Meung is located in 130/2 moo.4 Napo sub-district, Sawee district, Chumphon. It is very difficult to find the information about this temple’s history since there was no written evidence. However, you can go to ask some elderly (80 or 90 years old). They know a lot about this temple. The name of this temple did not come from Kwanmeung family near the temple. After it was founded, this family may use its name as a surname. About 60 years ago, the area of temple used to be a forest with a lot of big trees. In the cave, there were many animals such as birds, monkeys, bears, tigers etc. At night, everyone is quite afraid about walking near Sawee River alone. In the past, monks lived in the cave since there were a lot of caves here. The big one is on the east. In this cave, there was a decorated Buddha image which is very beautiful. This metal Buddha image is 1.66-metre tall.Another one is wood standing Buddha image. The last one was also made from metal but it is smaller than the first one. It is 1.15 metres tall. However, this one was stolen in B.E.2517.Department of Religious Affairs registered this place as a Buddhist temple in B.E.2449. If you count, it has been 76 years so far. (B.E.2526)
