Khao Aok Talu

KhaoAokTalu is a mountain located in the middle of Phatthalung province covering the area of 3 sub-districts which are Kuhasawan, Prang Moo and Payakan. Local people in Phatthalung believe that it is a sacred mountain alomost like the main pillar of the province. That is why KhaoAokTalu and Chedi located on this mountain are used as a symbol of Phatthalung. Also, KhaoAokTalu appears on province’s motto. KhaoAokTalu is a limestone mountain with 250 metres high. The center is 10 metres wide from the middle part to the end of mountain top which can look through from the other side. According to the myth, this mountain is a result from the fight between a wife and a mistress. The wife hit the mistress’ head with a shuttle while the mistress hit the wife’s chest with a pestle. The pestle hit her so hard that it went through the chest. Both were dead and became the mountain. The wife turned into “KhaoAokTalu” and the mistress became “KhaoHuaTaek” or “KhaoKuhasawan” nearby.KhaoAokTalu is another important touristic place of Phatthalung. It takes 1,066 steps before reaching the top. Still, along the way visitors can stop and admire a beautiful view. After 30 minutes, visitors will arrive at the separated spot of the mountain. This is quite exciting as the hole near the top is quite high from the ground and can be seen through and when they walk further, they will reach the top. This spot offers the whole panorama view of Phatthalung province which can’t be missed for those who love to take intriguing pictures.
