Luang Pho Daeng of Wat Choeng Khao

Luang Pho Daeng of Wat Choeng Khao Wat Choeng Khao is an old temple located at Moo 4, Ban Choeng Khao, Paluka Samo Sub-District, Bacho District of Narathiwat Province. It is situated near the Budo Mountain, 13 kilometers from the District Office towards Pattani Province. From an intersection on Phetkasem Road (Highway No. 42), turn left at Ban Ton Sai and proceed for 5.5 kilometers. The temple was previously located at Ban Plak Yai, 2 kilometers away from the current location. It was moved because the previous location was a wetland, frequently flooded and also very small. Therefore, an abbot at that time, Luang Pho Daeng, decided to find a new location for the temple and he found that the area at the foothill of Budo Mountain was perfect because there is a Buddhist village nearby, while others are Muslim villages. Later, Luang Pho Daeng, the former abbot of Wat Choeng Khao and the famous revered monk of Narathiwat, passed away at the age of 90 on January 1, 1979. People decided to keep his body for three years before cremating. After three years of his death, they opened his coffin and found out that his body did not decompose, which brings amazement to the people. They placed his sacred body in a glass coffin and keep it in a pavilion inside Wat Choeng Khao to be the spot where people can come visit and pay respect.
