Songkhla Old City Wall

Songkhla Old City Wall built in 1836 in Rama III period by have mandate Songkhla governor to move city from Leam Son to Bo Yang. This wall built finish in 1842 (total 6 years). Cause of delay is rebellion at Malay city in 1838. It located far from water around 40 meters. The length from east to west of town wall is 1,200 meters and from north to south is 1,000 meters. There are totally 8 fortress and 10 city gates. City gate is the large arch, width 3 meters and height 6 meters. Arch has feature of Chinese roof. After a long period, town wall was declined and deteriorated. But always have repair and restore. During 1894-1905 there was command to dismantle for take bricks to build and improve road. Later explored important archaeology materials which are stele bury under fortress. Suppose that it use for exorcise spirit and destroy black magic. In year 2011 had heavy storm and caused town hall collapse and restore by Fine Arts Department.
