Wat Elephant

Wat Elephant-shaped Cave is located at Baan Elephant-shaped Cave, PatangbehsarSubdistrict, Sa Dao District. It is Chinese temple which is at the foothill and is famous that it has prominent architecture among the temples in the southern region of Thailand. Both Thai and Malaysian tourists come here to pay respect to the Buddha images and to see stalactite in the elephant-shaped cave. If you travel to Patangbehsar, you can visit here because the temple is simply 11 kilometers away from the station. Inside enshrines the lying Buddha images,KuanYim (Goddess of Mercy), moreover, the temple in surround with shady and peaceful atmosphere. For site-seeing here, the tourists would see the beautiful Chedi made of marble.Another outstanding sites of the temple is the broad field, the stream which water flows through according to Feng Shui, the Chinese belief of how to locate a building, symbolizing coolness leading to the place to be a peaceful one. The buildings in the temple are modern art. The walking way to the cave is built with cement along with the bridge. At the front of the temple lies the huge banyan tree and the front of the cave is decorated with stones in the shape similar to trunk to match with the name of the cave.Inside the cave is the very broad area consisting of a lot of rooms with their made-of-marble-and-tile floor. At the very first, we will see the large Buddha image and then on the up-stair, the showcase displaying a number pieces of valuable emerald engraved beautifully, as well as the Buddha image in the attitude of reclining, stalagmite supplemented with colorful light to create interesting dimension inside the cave.You can travel by car from Sa Dao District by using the highway no.4054 and go straightly through Patangbehsar station. When you cross the train railway, you have to go straightly to the three intersection and turn right. Then you turn left and head to Baan Chai Kwan, Baan Toon Mai Duan, Baan elephant-shaped mountain of which two-lane tar road is quite not convenient.
