Wat Pa-Ko

Wat Pa-Ko (previously called WalLuang) is now called Rachapradisatan temple, located at the area of Pathasing mountain, Moo.6, ChumpolSubdistrict, Sa Ting Phra District, about 48 kilometers from Songkla Province. It is the temple that Somdet Pa-Ko or Monk great-grandfather who can change fresh water respected by a lot of people stayed in a Buddhist monastery during the Buddhist Lent.It is said that one day the pirate sailed boat along the seashore and saw Somdet Pa-Ko look strange from other people so he wanted to challenge him. The pirate then stopped the boat and took the monk away. After he sailed boat for a moment, the boat happened to be unable to sail further so the boat had to stop for many days. Finally, fresh water was out causing difficulty to the pirate, Somdet Pa-Ko put his left foot dip into the sea, then it was the flash of light emerging from the sea and the water in the sea became fresh water. Then they happened to have faith in the monk and asked him for forgiveness and brought him to the seashore, since then a lot of people came to pay respect to him.There are important archeological sites in the temple which is PhraSuwannamalikChedi Sri Rattanamahathat which inside enshrines the relics of the Lord Buddha, the Buddha image in the attitude of reclining or PhraKotama, the golden Buddha image in the attitude of Nirvana of which size is 18 meters long and 2.5 meters high built by local sculptor’s craftsmanship, the footprint of the Lord Buddha placed in the Mondop, a square hall with a pyramidal roof, at the top of the mountain which the local people believe that it is the footprint of Monk great-grandfather who can change fresh water.Model and memorial monument of Monk great-grandfather who can change fresh water was enshrined next to the footprint of the Lord Buddha so that the Buddhists can pay homage to them conveniently.In the old days, PhraChinnasen who was the founder in 500 B.E. named the temple Phrarachapradisatan in 840 B.E. Phraya Thammarangkala who was the ruler of Phatthalung Province was the supporter of building permanent objects. Later, during 2091-2111, Phraya Dam Thamrongkasat (some source said that Phraya Thammarangkal) invited PhraMahaAnomatassee, Phranasaiyamuy and PhraThammakawa to bring the parade of PhraMahathat, Lang Ka town to build RattanamahathatChedi which was 5 Was high, PhraDhamma pavilion, the ordaination hall, the wall which was 6 Soks high between the monk area and the people area. The area of the temple in the east is the area forshrine.Later on, the temple’s name was changed into Wat Pa-Ko. At that time the King of Phattalung (Sa Ting Phra) and clergy asked for devotion of land from the KingTravelling : you can use the highway no. 407 through Tinsulanonda bridge passing Yo Island leading to the highway no.408 (Songkla-Ranod) at left side the 110th milestone is the direction sign to the temple.
