Nam Pung Dam is the electricity development project driven by the water energy. It is the first completed dam in northeastern region. This dam can produce electricity to meet the need of people in Sakon Nakhon and Nakhon Panom provinces. Nam Pung Dam has supported electricity production system and electricity current in the region for building secure state to meet the need of electricity usage. Also, the scenery around the dam is very beautiful with the small and giant mountains. The atmosphere is very serene. Nam Pung dam is another place where visitors also come to experience the pure nature. The feature of Nam Pung dam in Sakon Nakhon province is made of damped stones. The core is clay. The dam ridge is 1,720 meters long, 10 meters wide and 41 meters higher from the water level. The dam ridge is 286.5 meters high from the middle sea level. The water reservoir covers 21 square kilometers. The water flowing into the dam is 111 million cubic meters average each year. The dam can contains around 165 million cubic meters. The electricity factory is concrete with iron building which covers 670 meters area. There are two electricity produce machines which releases heat by air pressure. The power is 3,000 kilowatts per machine. Altogether is 6,000 kilowatt. They are connected to Ubonrat dam transfer system at Maha Sarakham high electricity station. The construction is already completed and the opening day was taken place on 14th November 1965. The benefit of Nam Pung dam, Sakon Nakhon province Nam Pung dam is built to provide benefits in both producing electricity energy by water energy 17 million kilowatts per hour each year, to enhance the performance of sending electricity throughout the region, to prevent the flood during flood season, to contain the water to be used for irrigation and agricultural function in Sakon Nakhon and Nakhon Panom provinces during dry season and to be a beautiful tourist attraction.
