Chum Phol Gate is situated right behind Thao Suranari Monument. King Narai Maharaj was the one who willed to build Nakhonratchasima as a frontier state in 1656 as it was the year which he got into the throne and dominate Ayuttaya. His Majesty built the city wall in a very strong condision and ordered French architect to design the city plan. Nakhonratchasima city plan is in a rectangle shape (1000×17000 meters). At first, there are four city doors which are Northern Phol Saen, Eastern Phol Larn, Southern Chai Narong and Western Chum Phol. Presently, there is only Chum Phol Gate left. While, another three gates left has been renovated once again. Chum Phol gate was made of the big stones and bricks with cements. The top of the door is a wooden war tower with tile roof. The tower was decorated with gable apex, Naga structure on gable and Ard Krajang. The top part of the wall was decorated by gable leaf. It has been believed that anyone who pass through this gate will get a chance to come back to Khorat again. If you pass through the gate two times, you will get to re located to Khorat. If you pass through the gate three times, you will get to marry a local Khorat people. In the reign of King Narai, Nakhonratchasima is in a rectangle shaped which was enclosed with little canal and wall. Four city gates were built at that time as well. The war tower was made with the aim of inspecting the enemy troops.
