Udonthani Thai-Chinese Cultural Center

Situated at 889, 39 San Chao Neramit Road, TambonMakKhaeng, at the front of the Pu-Ya Shrine to the East, the Thai-Chinese Cultural Center was established to be a center for collecting and preserving art and culture, the ancestor’s way of living and philosophy of Thai-Chinese people in Udon Thani. The foundation stone laying ritual was held on 4 August, 2009, and the official opening ceremony was made on 6 January, 2013. Both ceremonies were presided over by HRH. Princess Bajrakitiyabha Narendiradebyavati. The Center was designed into complex buildings comprising the building in honour of HRH. Princess Bajrakitiyabha Narendiradebyavati. The PUYA Foundation had the building constructed with a purpose of collecting information and royal duties of the Princess while she was appointed as a provincial public prosecutor of Udon Thani province. The other building is Khunnatham Museum, where its upper floor displays the stories of Thai-Chinese people in Udon Thani 120 years ago, the gathering of 9 organizations and 11 clans and the PUYA Foundation that tells a story of the revered God Pu-Ya, the activities of the Pu-Ya Shrine including the story of the committee of the Shrine from the past to present The Hall of Fame is to praise people who made sacrifice for the society of the Chinese community and provides interesting information of the 8 time-worship tradition of Chinese people with the technology of the 3D theatre. On the underground, it exhibits the story of life and philosophy and journey of Confucius, a Chinese legend, in forms of bas relief and life-like statues. Moreover, the collection of his teachings has been showcased via pictures with descriptions and video in a form of diorama. The Pricha Chairat Auditorium is a venue for the PUYA Chinese Orchestra rehearsal. The orchestra’s musical instruments are composed of Guzheng, Pipa (lute), flute (dizi), and Chinese pipe (tita) played by musicians who are children of the Pu-Ya Shrine Udon Thani. The surrounding area was designed and decorated in an exquisite Chinese garden style named “Garden of Thousand-year Virtue and the Twenty-four Paragons of Filial Piety”. The Garden are decorated with auspicious trees; namely, Spanish moss, weeping willow, black bamboo, coral plant, Chinese Fringe Flower, Henna tree, Begonia, and crown of thorns that surround the lotus pond and the butterfly koi or dragon carp pond. The area around the lotus pond is decorated with high-relief sculptures of the legend of 24 Chinese Filial Exemplars with descriptions in Thai-Chinese as a learning center for next generations.
