Wat Phra That Choeng Chum

Phra That Choeng Chum is a stupa measuring 24 meters high, located in a temple named WatPhra That Choeng Chum Worawihan. The rectangular structure is decorated with nearly 4 kilograms of golden, sacred umbrellas. It was built to enshrine the widely-venerated footprints of Buddhism’s main figures, PhraKakusantha, PhraKonakhom, PhraKatsapa, PhraKhodom and Phra Si Ariyametrai. The construction and history of the stupa itself, however, is murky. Nonetheless, the stupa is considered a sacred SakonNakhon religious icon. Next to it is a chapel housing the province’s most sacred Buddha image, Luang Pho Ong Saen. The temple holds annual celebrations between the 9th and 15thdays of each January’s waxing moon.
