Yai Ngao Castle

Yai Ngao Castle

Located at Ban Sangkha, Tambon Sangkha, these Khmer ruins comprise two stupas facing east and standing in a north-south direction. The brick stupas are on a laterite base and are decorated with carved brick gables depicting Makorn, which are mythic animal hybrids of lions, elephants and fish, holding a five-headed Naga (sea serpent) in their mouths. From its layout, it is believed there was once a third stupa. Decorations from the carved sandstone stupa’s pinnacle and door columns are displayed at the front lawn. Prasat Yai Ngao is 4 kilometres from Amphoe Sangkha, via Highway No. 24 (Chok Chai-DetUdom). It is 800 metres off the main road at Km. 189-190 via a dirt track.
