Nam Hueang Thai-Lao

Located at the Thailand-Laos border in Ban Na Kraseng, the Nam Hueang Thai-Lao Friendship Bridge is a bridge over the Nam Hueang River, connecting Thailand and Laos. From here, visitors can drive to Luang Prabang, a Laotian World Heritage City. What you have to do is cross the bridge and continue driving through the Laotian province of Sainyabuli until as far as Luang Prabang with a total distance of 363 kilometres. In addition, visitors can cross the border and go shopping at duty free shops in Laos. The bridge was officially opened on Thursday, 28 October 2004 by Surakiart Sathirathai, then Minister of Foreign Affairs of Thailand, and Somsavat Lengsavad, deputy prime minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Laos. It becomes a shortcut for Thai citizens to get to Luang Prabang and also allows Laotian residents to travel to Bangkok easily. To get here by car, drive 47 kilometres along Loei-Tha Li Road. When you reach Tha Li Town, use Highway 2099. Drive as far as Phra That Satcha and on your right side there will be a road branching from the highway. Turn right onto that road and drive about seven kilometres before arriving at the destination.
