Royal Handwriting Monument

Royal Handwriting Monument, sometimes called “Royal Handwriting Historical Site”, is located at Lai Phrahat Si Mahapo Park, under the supervision of Muang Kao Municipality, and Muang Kao Sub-District Administrative Organization. The monument preserves the handwriting of King Rama V (King Chulachomklao) when he visited Prachinburi in 1908. It was the inscription on a laterite stone, which was the ancient remain of Hindu temple in Lop Buri period. The temple was assumed to be in the same period as Muang Si Mahosot, and Muang Amorn Thevee. It was supposed that the Royal Handwriting Historical Site is around B.E. 12-13.Royal Handwriting Monument has been registered as the national historical site in 1981. It is believed that the monument is the debris, which only its laterite base has been left until nowadays. Other parts were already damaged. In 1914, a mondop was built to cover the Royal Handwriting Historical Site. However, it was later dilapidated. In 1930, a new mondop was therefore built with ferro -concrete to cover the old one. The architectural style consists of stucco patterns of garuda, and flowers, looking apparently terrific. Inside the monument enshrines the portrait of King Rama V, and his signature inscribed on stone slab. It is open for general visitors.
