Somdet Phra Chao Taksin Maharat Public Park

Somdet Phra Chao Taksin Maharat Public park is located in Wat Mai Sub-district, Mueang District, Chanthaburi Province. It is a large public park in the city center where many people usually come and get relaxed. During the important festival like New Year, the park is used for arranging the celebration in the province. Inside the 300-Rai area of this park, the swamp is dug around the area in order to be a fish hatchery for the province’s fishery. This makes the park comfortably cool with the wind. Besides, the surrounded atmosphere is shady with various types of plants arranged in a beautiful garden. The park is such a perfect place to go exercising and to breathe clean air, both in the morning and the evening. Having lunch on a mat is also another interesting activity. The activity that the visitors should not miss is to pay respect to the statue of King Taksin riding on a horse back with four of his trusting soldiers (Phra Chiang Ngoen, Luang Pichai Asa, Luang Phrom Sena, and Luang Ratchasaneha). The statue is situated on the island and was built as a remembrance for King Taksin since he chose Chanthaburi Province to gather people to restore Krung Si Ayutthaya. Somdet Phra Chao Taksin Maharat Public Park covers not only a 300-Rai park, but also the area on Srichan Road and in Krachang lane, which are in the vicinity of the park. This area is the largest gems market in Thailand. The attractive thing for the tourists to experience is the active atmosphere when gems are traded among the brokers and the gems dealers. This is one of the charms of Chanthaburi Province. The tourists can visit this place from Friday to Sunday from 10.00 a.m. to 3 p.m. Opening time and day: Every day from 8.30 a.m. to 5.30 p.m. Admission fee: None.
