Wat Chomphothayaram

Wat Chomphothayaram is located in Sothon Subdistrict, Mueang Chachoengsao District, Chachoengsao, about one kilometre away from Chachoengsao-Bang Pakong Road. Founded in 1980 by Phra Khru Palat Supho Chanthapho, the temple was built on the land with an area of over 19200 square metres donated by a couple, namely Chom and Yiam Thongkhamplew. After that monk’s houses, a sermon hall, Ubosot, or the main hall, and the attractions of Sang We Chaniya Sathan, the reproduced version of the real sites in South Asia, were constructed and were completed in 2001.Sang We Chaniya Sathan is places that commemorate the Buddha. Visiting these sites and thinking of the Buddha’s good deeds will encourage visitors to do good deeds and live their lives wisely. Wat Chomphothayaram’s replicas of Sang We Chaniya Sathan are reproductions of four places including: 1.The Buddha’s birthplace, a park called Lumbini in Nepal2.The Enlightenment Stupa of Bodh Gaya, a golden stupa standing prominently and marking the place where the Buddha attained enlightenment. It is located near Patna, Bihar, India.3.The stupa of the first sermon, a dome-shaped stupa marking the place where the Buddha delivered his first sermon, the Dhammacakkappavattana Sutta. The stupa is officially called Dhamek Stupa, located in Sarnath, near Varanasi, India. 4.Parinirvana Temple, a huge building with a curved roof located in Kasia, Uttar Pradesh, India. In Wat Chomphothayaram’s reproduction, a reclining Buddha image is hosted. Phra Maha Chatuphon Chanatthachoto (Phrommi), abbot of the temple, reveals that, apart from being a Buddhist temple, Wat Chomphothayaram is an attraction with the replicas of the four holy places. Wat Chomphothayaram is the only temple in Chachoengsao with the reproductions of these holy sites and Buddhists can pay their respect to them without going to the real places in India and Nepal.
