Wat Tum Khao Chakan

Wat Tum Khao Chakan is located at Ban Khao Chakan, Tambon Khao Chakan, Amphoe Khao Chakan, Sa kaeo. It is located on Khao Chakan which is three big limestone mountains on the highway 317 which can be easily seen. On the foothills is the arboretum of the Forest Department. Khao Chakan is a limestone mountain that is outstanding since the height is in a vertical line with the ground and the surface of the cliff like a curtain. Moreover, the mountain is more than 2,000-4,000 years old with around 12 caves on the mountain such as Hanumarn Cave, Mahasingh Cave, Namthip Cave, Kaewplai Choompon Cave. However, the popular one is Talu Cave, which has a Buddha Statue inside in order for the tourists to worship.The Khao Chakan is also the location of Wat Tum Khao Chakan which is a temple in the Mahayan Denomination. Inside the temple, there is an Ubosot built in 1990 which is built in the form of a building supported by concrete. The monk’s cell is a half building- half wood with around 300 stairs in order for the tourists to climb up and see the city view. Moreover, there are more than thousands of wild monkeys in the temple. The tourists can feed the monkeys but have to be very careful. There are also many bats in the cave which fly out during the evening, therefore, if the tourists want to see the phenomenon they have to come at 6 p.m. For those who are interested, can travel from Sa kaeo junction and follow the highway 317 (Sa kaeo-Chantaburi) to Amphoe Khao Chakan for around 16 kilometres. The entrance is near the highway on the left side.
