Somdet Phra Srinagarindra Park, Chiang RaiThe park is the 7th in series to commemorate the 80th Birthday Anniversary of Somdet Phra Srinagarindra Boromarajajonani. Located at Ban Du subdistrict, Mueang district, it is approximately 9 kilometers away from downtown Chiang Rai. The park spreads over the shady and pleasant area of 625 Rai (or 1 Sq. Km.) in relaxing atmospheres. It has been opened to the public since 1988. The park sits within the compound of the School of Traditional and Alternative Medicine, Chiang Rai Rajabhat University which provides Lanna and traditional Thai medicine treatments. The beautiful park offers pure fresh air, peaceful atmospheres and awe-inspiring views of lotus ponds. The ponds-big and small ones-occupy a total space of 223 Rai and are always filled with crystal clear water. The edges of these ponds are spectacularly decorated with variety of cold-climate flowers. On a relatively small dune stands a pavilion in Chiang Rai architectural style and a lovely flower bed. Moreover, “a path of flowers” stretches for several meters to connect big and small lotus ponds. The surrounding area of the park comprises paddy fields, villages, a reserved forest and Chiang Rai Rajabhat University. Visitors can also admire the views of mountain ranges from distant. In addition to glittering surface of water and enchanting blossoms, the park offers a palm orchard, a bamboo field, a teak plantation, as well as an arboretum garden. There are Yellow Silk Cotton trees, the park’s symbolic plant, growing all over the area. In their blooming season, tourists can enjoy the reflections of their golden yellow buds in the water. The park is a popular place for relaxation and workout. The operating hours are from 8.30-18.00. No admission fee required. It is very convenient and easy to get there. The park is only 8 kilometers away from downtown Chiang Rai, on Chiang Rai-Mae Chan route.
