Town Wall and MoatTown Wall and Moat is one of the important touristic places in Phitsanulok. Not only it is the commemoration monument, but it is also a historical legacy passed on to the next generation. This town wall was made from soil which is similar to Sukhothai’s town wall construction. It is believed to be built during the reign of King Borommatrailokkanat of Ayutthayato prevent the attack of Lanna troops led by King Tilokanat. Later, in the reign of Somdet Phra MahaChakkraphat, the wall was reconstructed in order to fight the enemies and prevent the attack from Burmese troop. During the reign of King Narai, the wall was rebuilt with bricks to strengthen the structure constructed by French people. Later on during the reign of King Rama I, the first king of Chakri dynasty, he had the wall and fortresses demolished in order to prevent the Burmese from invading Siam at that time.Today’s, remains of the old wall can be seen near the railway trail around the PhuthornPolice Station in Phitsanulok.
